Helmer Kieran Darcy-Smith May Follow Up With 'Memorial Day'
After conquering Park City with "Animal Kingdom" two years ago, several members of the Blue Tongue Films gang are set to return to the snowy city once again next month for Kieran Darcy-Smith's directorial debut, "Wish You Were Here," which will also serve as the festival's opening night film.
The film's website has now unveiled a whole host of new images from the movie featuring all four leading cast members, including rising Hollywood stars Teresa Palmer and Joel Edgerton alongside Antony Starr and Felicity Price, who also co-scripted the film with Darcy-Smith. The recently revealed trailer promised an intriguing, thrilling affair which looks to contrast the exotic photography of Thailand and joys of traveling with everyday life in suburban Australia, where much of the drama seems to unfold. Also detailed on the website are the musical contributions to the film, noting that Tim Rogers, frontman of popular Australian rockers You Am I, will be contributing three original songs to the film, with previous Blue Tongue collaborator Rosie Chase writing the score.
Darcy-Smith, meanwhile, seemingly has his next directorial effort already set with a family crime-drama titled "Memorial Day." The script, in fact, won a "Best Unproduced Screenplay" IF award in 2008 and follows the story of "two brothers — one out of his depth in a hard world he doesn't understand, the other recently returned from a period of self-imposed exile — struggle to redress the fallout from a past family tragedy." Angie Fielder ("Animal Kingdom") is producing and, while partial financing is already in place, no word yet on when production could begin or if this will indeed be Darcy-Smith's follow up to "Wish You Were Here."
