Yesterday the jaw of the internet collectively dropped when the first image of Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander hit the web and just when we think we’ve recovered, a new batch of photos are making the rounds from the W magazine shoot, and if we were fifteen years younger in our mopey, listening-to-The-Cure-non-stop teenage years, we would have found our new girlfriend.
These new photos are just as impressive as the magazine cover that circled the web yesterday, and you can bet that by time the Sony marketing machine is finished, Lisbeth Salander is going to be a Hot Topic-esque fashion icon (hint: there is a reason why Sony allowed a fashion magazine to drop the first official photos). Either way, she just looks damn cool and while there is still a subset that is arguing that Noomi Rapace is the only one who can ever be Lisbeth, their protests are getting weaker by the minute.
The David Fincher film about sordid sexual misdeeds and corruption will make Christmas a little bit darker when it lands on December 21st. More pics below.
The photos were taken by Jean-Baptiste Mondino. You know who that is, right? Possibly not, but you should. He’s a rather famous French fashion photographer and music video director, who really doesn’t make music videos that often anymore, but at one point the makers of the now-defunct Director’s Label series wanted to produce a DVD entry of his work. Some of his better known music videos include several for Neneh Cherry, Lenny Kravitz, Madonna (“Human Nature,” “Don’t Tell Me,” “Justify My Love”) “If That’s Your Boyfriend (He Wasn’t Last Night)” by Meshell Ndegeocello, “Violently Happy” by Björk, “Downtown Train” by Tom Waits and “The Boys of Summer” by Don Henley just to name a few.
