More Watchmen News: Ending Fakeout a Fakeout? Zack Snyder To Stick With Squid-less Ending

Comic fanboys must be nearing Defcon Two right about now as more and more information trickles in on the “Watchmen” front. Also, spoilers abound beyond this point, so if you remain one of the seven humans who hasn’t heard about this yet and would like to remain in that shrinking group, read no further.

Last month we reported on the rumor that the allegedly squidless ending to Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen” film might have been a fake designed to test audiences. While fans everywhere rejoiced that they might actually get to see a silver screen representation of an interdimensional mollusk wiping out the Big Apple, it appears that those hopes have been dashed. According to /Film, Snyder claims that he only shot one ending for his movie.

Possibly hoping to divert blame from the inflamed masses, he claims that “The squid was not in the movie when I got the script, the squid was never in any draft that I saw. My point is only that there was this elegant solution to the squid problem that I kind of embraced.” He also goes on to say that all of the comic fans with whom he’s spoken have rated the film “excellent.” So, you know, it wasn’t his idea to change the ending…but if you liked it then it totally was [ed. PS, we too have a few versions of the screenplay and neither has a squid].

Regardless of the film’s squid content, everyone will soon get another chance to sneak a peek at the results when a new trailer debuts in front of “Quantum of Solace” this weekend. There’s also another one scheduled for early 2009. If the film actually gets to come out on time…
