Morgan Spurlock Is The 'Inside Man' At CNN

nullSince his debut with 2004’s “Super Size Me,” Morgan Spurlock has become a fixture in the documentary scene. Despite having a busy year — “Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope” officially saw release this past spring and “Mansome” premiered at Tribeca — Spurlock is already at work on his next effort, and is set to return to the small screen with a “non-fiction original series” for the cable news network CNN.

Inside Man," which is scheduled to premiere next spring, will mark Spurlock’s third foray into television — fourth if you count the online web series “A Day In The Life.” The show will air on the weekend and “carry the distinctive stamp of its host while taking viewers on colorful and informative journeys into fascinating corners of American society.” So yeah, it essentially sounds something continuing in the vein of "30 Days" or the aforementioned 'Life,' albeit with a different spin. The venture continues the flailing CNN's attempts to court a younger audience, or at least ensnare people with a unique take on the news (please see their collaboration with Vice), but we'd reckon they might become the power players they once were by sticking to hard news, instead of becoming another provider of edu-tainment.

Spurlock’s brand of filmmaking can grate on the nerves of some but there's no doubt he provides compelling fare, and it will be interesting to see what spin his show takes. “Inside Man” will premiere on CNN in April 2013. [Deadline]
