It would be understandable if John Darnielle‘s freakish talent made you mad, but whatever he turns out tends to be so good, it’s hard to resist embracing his various creative endeavors. Also known as the celebrated indie act The Mountain Goats, the musician is also a gifted writer, and earned a National Book Award nomination for his debut novel “Wolf In White Van” like it was no big deal. Darnielle is also a giant nerd (and enthusiast of black metal, among other things) so, seeing him write a song about “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” isn’t surprising. But of course, it’s not quite what you were expecting.

The terrifically titled “The Ultimate Jedi Who Wastes All the Other Jedi and Eats Their Bones” was what Darnielle was trying to get director Rian Johnson to name his “Star Wars” sequel. When that didn’t happen, he turned it into a song which is officially canon, even though Darnielle knows as much about ‘The Last Jedi’ as you or I do. At any rate, it’s a new song from the The Mountain Goats, and it will at least pass a couple more minutes as we wait for the followup to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” to arrive later this year.
