Musical Madness: 'Heathers' & 'Twilight' Coming To The Stage

This could be cause for celebration or devastation, depending on how the songbook turns out, but THR report that a musical based on late ’80s dark teen comedy “Heathers” is in rehearsals. It’s being developed by Andy Fickman (director of the Disney slam dunk “Race to Witch Mountain” and co-developer of off-Broadway hit Reefer Madness) with songs by Larry O’Keef (of Broadway’ Legally Blonde) with the full blessing of Daniel Waters, who penned the movie and owns the underlying rights to all things “Heathers.”

The rehearsals have reportedly included Kristen Bell (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”) reading the Winona Ryder/Veronica character and a cast of no one anyone recognizes in the other roles. They’re planning a regional tour of the show, possibly to be followed by a trip to Broadway if all goes well.

We feel that adding song and dance numbers to most anything makes it worse, but we’re quite curious to hear the songs from “Heathers.” Will they open with a cast sing-along to “Que Sera, Sera” while the Heathers play croquet? There absolutely must be a musical reworking of Big Fun’s “Teenage Suicide Don’t Do It.”

And oh, there’s also “Twilight: The Musical.” Dear god, help us.
