You’ve probably heard a little buzz about this documentary, “The Cove,” as it won the audience award at Sundance earlier this year and also took big awards at Toronto’s Hot Docs and the Newport Film Festival. But man, you have to watch this trailer, it’s amazing. It’s basically tells the story of about an illegal fishing area and Japan where dolphins and whales are mercilessly killed and a team of filmmakers that try and infiltrate it Jason Bourne style and expose it to the mass media and the world. It looks like Green Peace gone international espionage and man it looks completely riveting. We can’t wait to see this thing. Here’s the synopsis:
In the 1960’s, Richard O’Barry was the world’s leading authority on dolphin training, working on the set of the popular television program “Flipper.” Day in and day out, O’Barry kept the dolphins working and television audiences smiling. But one day, that all came to a tragic end. THE COVE, directed by Louie Psihoyos, tells the amazing true story of how Psihoyos, O’Barry and an elite team of activists, filmmakers and freedivers embarked on a covert mission to penetrate a hidden cove in Japan, shining light on a dark and deadly secret. The mysteries they uncovered were only the tip of the iceberg.
The film opens up on July 31 in limited, NY/L.A. release, but expands after that (more info here). You don’t need to be a Save The Earth, green-peacer to find this interesting. One look at the trailer and we’re totally hooked. Uhh, pun not intended. Do yourself a favor and watch the trailer it’s probably one of the most engaging adverts for a film we’ve seen all year.
