Naked Thighs & Automatic Weapons: New Character Posters For Zack Snyder's 'Sucker Punch' Basically What You Were Expecting

Say what you like about Zack Snyder (and god knows we have…), but the man has a work ethic like a pit pony; he announced that “300” prequel “Xerxes” has begun scripting earlier this week, and he’s got animated owl epic “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls Of Ga’hoole” on the way in September. In between is his passion project “Sucker Punch,” Snyder’s first original work.

It’s an ambitious tale, somewhere between Terry Gilliam, “Inception” and “Girl Interrupted”; a sort of “Suicide Girls In Wonderland,” if you will, set in the 1950s and following Babydoll (Emily Browning, who replaced Amanda Seyfried), a teenage girl who is institutionalized by her wicked stepfather (Jon Hamm), and creates an alternate reality, along with her fellow inmates, in which she has to find five objects that will help her to escape before she’s lobotomized. The film’s being unveiled at Comic-Con this weekend, and six saucy character posters for the film have gone online over at Coming Soon.

The posters show Browning as Babydoll, “High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens as the seemingly-incorrectly-named Blondie, Abbie Cornish as “Sweet Pea,” Jamie Chung as “Amber,” a young Annette Bening Jena Malone as Rocket and Carla Gugino as Madam Gorski, as well as some hints of the fantastical landscapes we’ll see, full of zeppelins, robots, dragons and helicopters.

You can check out the Abbie Cornish one above (it’s thankfully sorted the question of what the team should get the Editor-In-Chief for his birthday this year…), and you can head over to Coming Soon to see them in bigger versions. We’d like nothing more for this to be a sort of big-budget fantasy version of a Russ Meyer movie, but Snyder’s yet to deliver anything that works on a level above “ZOMG THAT LOOKS COOL!” But the website’s just gone online, and we’d expect to see a trailer sooner rather than later; maybe this is the one where he pulls it off?
