'The Lair': Neil Marshall To Direct A New Action-Horror Film About Half-Alien Monsters

Sadly, for those not interested in the behind-the-scenes drama of Hollywood, the stories that have been published about filmmaker Neil Marshall in recent months have been less about his creative work and more about personal matters. This drama includes behind-the-scenes turmoil that reportedly happened during his most recently released film, “Hellboy,” as well as the drama surrounding his real-life partner, Charlotte Kirk, that clouded the premiere of his new film, “The Reckoning.” However, this time, the news has nothing to do with his personal life and everything to do with his upcoming project, “The Lair.”

Marshall is set to direct and produce the upcoming horror film, “The Lair.” The film, which has some serious “Alien” vibes, tells the story of a British fighter pilot that crash lands in Afghanistan and takes shelter in an underground bunker. Unfortunately for her, the bunker is packed full of half-human, half-alien hybrids that are hungry for human flesh. And once she barely escapes, the pilot unknowingly brings those monsters back with her as she goes to an American base.

“If ‘The Reckoning’ was a gothic drama in testament to the power and resilience of women, then ‘The Lair’ is my true return to full-blooded horror and intense genre action in the style of ‘Dog Soldiers,’ ‘The Descent’ and ‘Doomsday,’” Marshall said. “I’m making something scary as hell, pulse-pounding and great fun. This is a crowd pleaser, an adrenaline pumping roller-coaster ride; spectacular and loud, inspired by classic genre movies like ‘Aliens,’ ‘Predator’ and ‘The Thing’ and their incredible use of practical creature FX. Featuring a new breed of screen terror, ‘The Lair’ will be a snarling, ravenous beast of a movie. I’m going to get my hands bloody making this one!”

As mentioned, Marshall’s most recent films include the superhero film, “Hellboy,” and the upcoming period horror feature, “The Reckoning.” However, he’s probably best known for his films “Dog Soldiers,” “The Descent,” and “Doomsday,” as well as his work helming multiple episodes of “Game of Thrones” and “Westworld.”

There’s no release date set for “The Lair.”
