Can time offer a better perspective on Neill Blomkamp‘s "Chappie"? With audiences passing on the movie for the most part, and even the director’s most diehard fans critical of the picture, was its reception due to heightened expectations? Will it get a better assessment on home video?
Well, you can find out in June when "Chappie" comes to Blu-ray. And according to Sony‘s own ad for the movie, it will come boxed with the increasingly standard alternate ending. Not to spoil it for those who haven’t seen the film, but the finale required a certain leap of faith, while remaining pretty effective and even moving. However, even by that point, if you weren’t with the film, you weren’t going to roll with it anyway. And as someone who liked "Chappie" quite a bit, I’m very curious to see the other direction Blomkamp considered.
"Chappie" hits Blu-ray on June 16th. And oh yeah, whatever happened with that PG-13 in Japan controversy? [via Film Divider]
