First up, the network has ordered “Friends From College” from husband and wife team Nick Stoller (“Neighbors,” “Neighbors: Sorority Rising,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” “Get Him to the Greek“) and Francesca Delbanco. Starring Keegan-Michael Key, Cobie Smulders, Annie Parisse, Nat Faxon, Fred Savage and Jae Suh Park, the series centers on a group of friends who went to Harvard together and are now facing down their forties and experiencing a range of success, or lack thereof, both professionally and domestically. With interwoven and oftentimes complicated relationships with one another, the series is a comedic exploration of old friendships, former romantic entanglements and balancing adult life with nostalgia for the past. Stoller and Delbanco both attended Harvard, so it sounds like a show informed by experience and one with lots potential.
Next, Netflix is pairing up with CBC for “Anne,” a new series based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s beloved “Anne Of Green Gables” books. The source material has already served as the foundation for countless TV miniseries and adaptations, perhaps most famously, CBC’s 1985 version starring Megan Follows. The new iteration will have some big talent behind it with Niki Caro (“Whale Rider“) directing the pilot and Moira Walley-Beckett (“Breaking Bad“) penning the eight-episode project, that will begin production in September, and is set to air in 2017.
So, sounds like more good stuff coming from Netflix, now we just have to find the time to watch it.
