Not to be confused with the hit World War I Documentary “They Shall Not Grow Old” by Peter Jackson, “Never Grow Old” is a dark Western and tells a completely different kind of story. Set in 1849 frontier America, a different era but still reminiscent of “The Witch” in tone, an Irish undertaker profits when outlaws come into his town, but his family comes under fire as the death toll rises.
The undertaker appears to have made the decision to help the outlaws in exchange for money for his family and is now struggling with his moral compass. The trailer asks what appears to be the central question of the film once you’ve crossed an uncrossable moral line: “Do you feel proud of yourself?!”
The Western indie film is the newest adventure for John Cusack, who stars as the film’s outlaw antagonist. Cusack is currently traveling around the U.S. hosting events and screenings of some of his old classic films like “High Fidelity” and “Grosse Pointe Blank.”
Here is the official synopsis:
Debauchery. Greed. Murder. Welcome to Garlow. The once-peaceful frontier town is now a den of vice after vicious outlaw Dutch Albert (John Cusack) and his gang arrived—and began gunning down their opposition. Undertaker Patrick Tate (Emile Hirsch) must choose between the blood money he makes burying the murderers’ victims and the threats he and his family face in this intense and gritty western.
Directed by Ivan Kavanagh, he is the filmmaker behind the “Tin Can Man,” and “The Solution.” Starring alongside Cusack is Emile Hirsch, Déborah François, Antonia Campbell-Hughes, Danny Webb, Anne Coesens, Blake Berris, Paul Reid, and Léa Seydoux.
A Saban Films and Lionsgate co-release,” Never Grow Old” is set to be released in select U.S. theaters and on Video On Demand starting March 15th, 2019.
