It's Tolkien Week, so Warner Bros. is carpet-bombing the interwebs with promotional material for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" all in anticipation of the brand-new trailer coming tomorrow. And the big question WB will have to answer is how can they get audiences back in the same numbers that came out to make "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy a nearly $3 billion worldwide smash? Hopefully Peter Jackson and co. will be bringing something both familiar and fresh.
But before we get to the pics, what on Earth is Tolkien Week actually celebrating? Well, this Friday, September 21, will mark the 75th anniversary of the publication of the book, while Saturday, September 22, is the birthdays of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, who were both said to be born on the same day of different years, Bilbo in the year 2890 and Frodo in the year of 2968 in the Third Age (1290 and 1368, respectively, in Shire-reckoning, the Hobbits' own calendar). So, there's that too.
As for the pics, we get lots of looks at Martin Freeman in the lead role as Bilbo, returning faces like Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett, and some peeks at the new guys, too. But all of this is a prelude to tomorrow when we get a brand new look at the movie. 'An Unexpected Journey' arrives in 48 fps, 3D or 2D depending on your flavor, on December 14th.
