Traditionally, January is something of a wasteland for the movies; as the last of the awards season pictures roll out, studios tend to use it to dump product that they know won't set the world alight critically or commercially. This year is, for the most part, no exception: dicey prospects like found footage horror "The Devil Inside," long-delayed Katherine Heigl vehicle "One For The Money," unnecessary vampire fourquel "Underworld: Awakening" and a film starring Dolly Parton are among what January has to offer. But there's at least one release coming in the first month of the year that promises something far more potent; "Haywire."
On the surface, it's a perfect January film; a female special-ops agent is betrayed by the people she works for, and goes on an ass-kicking trailer of revenge. But "Haywire" is directed by Steven Soderbergh, who reteams with his "Limey" writer Lem Dobbs on the project, and features a cast including Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Michael Angarano and Channing Tatum, all led by debut actress, and MMA star, Gina Carano. And word is that it's pretty terrific — check out our review from the AFI Fest if you don't believe us.
We're only a month away from seeing the film arrive in theaters, and HeyUGuys have an exclusive image of the film, topping a few others that show off Carano as ass-kicker in chief Mallory Kane, Michael Douglas as her boss, Coblenz, Channing Tatum as colleague Aaron, and Michael Angarano as Scott, a young man who helps her out when she's on the run. The movie lands January 20th, so we'll all be able to see where they fit into the puzzle pretty soon. (Bottom two images via Movies.com)
