New Look At John Carney's Lo-Fi Sci-Fi Comedy 'Zonad'

A new look at John Carney’s lo-fi sci-fi comedy “Zonad” has been dug up over at Twitch and provides a better feel for the film’s story and tone than it’s predecessor trailer.

The film was co-scribed by Kieran Carney, is a feature length adaptation of Carney’s 2003 short of the same name (which starred a then unknown Cillian Murphy) and centers on a rehab escapee who is mistaken for an alien after coincidentally arriving in a small Irish town on the night of a rare comet sighting.

In true Irish linguistic fashion, an early review of the film writes that “[they] laughed like the proverbial drain” which is a compliment, we think.

Carney should next be shooting his long-gestating project, ‘Town House” which has Zach Galifianakis and Amy Adams attached to a story about the reclusive son of a deceased music legend who is forced to come to terms with life with his finances dwindling. It’s set to go in in front of cameras in August. The helmer also has an unknown project in the works with Judd Apatow.

“Zonad” hits Irish theaters March 19th but doesn’t of yet have a release elsewhere.
