Here’s a new look at Rainn Wilson decked out in his Crimson Bolt suit for James Gunn’s sure-to-be twisted take on the superhero genre “Super,” with the film just announced as a feature at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival Midnight Madness line-up.
The film also stars Ellen Page, Kevin Bacon, Liv Tyler, Nathan Fillion and Linda Cardellini among others, and follows the story of an average guy (Wilson) transforms into pseudo-superhero The Crimson Bolt after his wife Sarah (Tyler) leaves him for a smooth-talking drug dealer Jacques (Bacon). Joined by sociopathic teen-turned-sidekick Libby (Page) the two begin to wage war on crime and plot to bring down Jacques.
Also announced, via Twitter, as Midnight Madness films for TIFF were Guy Moshe’s “Bunraku” — a live-action/animation noir hybird starring Josh Hartnett, Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, Ron Perlman and Kevin McKidd which follows a mysterious drifter and a young Japanese warrior in a classic Western-inspired journey — as well as Wu Ershan’s “The Butcher, The Chef & The Swordsman,” a pulpy-sounding actioner centering on “a butcher in a brothel who is in love with a courtesan.”
The full line-up will be announced later today with John Carpenter’s “The Ward” and James Wan’s “Insidious” tipped to be included. [TIFF]
