For some reason, we get called out for being snobs or elitists from time to time but the truth is, when done right, we love a big, dumb, fun comedy as much as the next guy.
On paper, the idea of a “MacGruber” movie is flimsy at best, and to be honest, most of the Playlist team was fairly skeptical that it would work. However, our EIC was pleasantly surprised when he caught the film at SXSW saying it was a “loud, boorish and borderline mentally retarded, stupid-fun paean to ’80s action flicks.” And the latest red-band trailer seems to bear that out.
In the spot below, we get a better look at the film with more blood and cussing than your standard trailer would ever allow. It’s stupid but thankfully seems fully aware of its stupidity. The entire cast looks like they’re having a ball and have embraced their roles with vigor. There is also a quick hint of the much talked about celery scene which we won’t spoil here but needless to say, may be one may scar Ryan Phillippe for the rest of his life.
