The Robert Rodriguez produced “Predators” hits theaters tomorrow, so we shouldn’t be too surprised that the marketing for his next project, the grindhouse feature “Machete,” has kicked into high gear.
Seemingly every fanboy-ish movie site got their own exclusive lobby cards/stills to run from the film yesterday (most of which we’ve compiled here) giving us a fresh peek at what’s in store and a new “Machete” trailer, which has been playing in front of some screenings of “Predators,” will most likely hit the web by the weekend.
As you might recall, “Machete” is a feature-length spin-off of the fake trailer featured before “Planet Terror” on the “Grindhouse” double bill. The film follows Machete Cortez (reprised by Danny Trejo) who finds himself double-crossed and left for dead. He must then band with a gang of misfits including his Federale-turned-priest brother (Cheech Marin), a socialite with a taste for guns (Lindsay Lohan) and a saucy taco slinger (Michelle Rodriguez) to fight back against the businessman who betrayed him (Jeff Fahey) and the corrupt senator behind new Anti-Immigration laws (Robert De Niro). The film will also boast a number of cameos/small roles by the likes of Don Johnson, Steven Seagal and Rose McGowan who (according to IMDB) reprises her role of Cherry Darling from “Planet Terror”)
As the previously released Cinco De Mayo trailer suggests, this is one will be over-the-top pulp goodness and the images confirm the gritty feel of the film. We also get our first look at Steven Seagal wielding both a sword and machete as well as twin nurses (the same two actresses from “Planet Terror” — Electra and Elise Avellan) having their way with some machine guns.
