New Mike Patton & Serj Tankian Song In 'Body Of Lies'

Fuck, Guns N’ Roses. Yeah, they have a new song called “If The World,” from the overly-long gestating Chinese Democracy featured in Ridley Scott’s “Body Of Lies.” But it’s the track “Bird’s Eye” written by ‘Lies’ score composer Marc Streitenfeld, ex-Faith No More frontman Mike Patton, Bay Area musician Goh Nakamura and System of a Down’s Serj Tankian that’s the real track in the credits worth sticking around for.

First off, holy hell is that GNR track terrible, pure ear bile. Axl sounds like a eunuch. It was pretty much like a parody of GNR with a slight, out-of-date industrial/NIN vibe to the beats, but pretty much useless. Long known for employing middle Eastern melodies, Patton and Tankian’s voices both are well suited this to this flavor (the film “Body Of Lies” is set in the Middle East, around Jordan) and it’s one of the better rock-centric tracks Patton’s been involved with in some time (sure, that’s not saying a lot, but still, it is a pretty decent track, all things Mr. Patton considered).

Neither track will show up on the “Body Of Lies” soundtrack which comes out October 14 on Varase Sarabande records (it’s all score material by Streitenfeld), so if you want to hear these tracks, you’ll have to hear them in the closing credits of the movie. Or in the case of GNR wait til Chinese Democracy comes out in November (if it actually does happen). One could assume that Patton/Tankian could also put it up on ITunes at some point (which would be smart). “Body of Lies” comes out Friday, October 10.
