Cillian Murphy seems to be one of those actors whose mere presence can lift a film. He has been steadily working for years now, and continues to mix things up between smaller movies and bigger, popcorn fare such as "Tron: Legacy" and "Inception" after making a name for himself with "28 Days Later" and "Batman Begins."
The actor is, of course, set for the all-star Irish collaboration on Brendan Gleeson's "At Swim-Two-Birds" but next year, he'll be seen starring opposite Robert De Niro, Sigourney Weaver and rising star Elizabeth Olsen in "Buried" helmer Rodrigo Cortes' psychological-thriller "Red Lights." At the recent American Film Market, a couple new images from the film were unveiled.
The story follows a psychologist (Weaver) and her assistant (Murphy) whose study of paranormal activity leads them to investigate a world-renowned psychic (De Niro). The psychologist attempts to debunk the psychic's work after he steps back into the limelight after 30 years.
Toby Jones, Joely Richardson, Burn Gorman and Craig Roberts also co-star in what sounds like fairly run-of-the-mill stuff. We're hoping, though, that Cortes can make the most of the acting talent at hand with a showdown between Weaver/Murphy and De Niro promising some decent material. The previously revealed trailer didn't really provide any indication of how Cortes has gone about things either but did unveil the omnious tagline of “No matter what you think you know…no matter what you believe in…the truth is the most dangerous illusion of all."
