New Photos From 'Captain America: Civil War,' Hulk Nearly Had A Post-Credits Cameo

Captain America: Civil WarCaptain America: Civil War” (our review) is coming, and it’s bringing an insanely stacked roster of Marvel characters with it. Pretty much everyone you’ve seen in the MCU so far appears, along with newcomers Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), but there are two people who are notably absent: Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Both will take center stage in next year’s “Thor: Ragnarok,” but according to screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the latter was considered for an appearance in ‘Civil War.’

“Mark Ruffalo shot no scenes. We talked about having Bruce Banner at the very end of the film, and it just, again, seemed like we’re sticking people in just to stick them in. He has clearly gone somewhere at the end of ‘Ultron,’ and that’s a story. Don’t blow it off and put it in a little tiny chunk just to put in a little extra filigree on our movie. That’s a story,” Markus told Huffington Post.

“There was a draft with a stinger of him in it. But that was long ago….” McFeely added. So, sorry, no Hulk, and don’t look for him in any deleted scenes either, because there aren’t any.

Meanwhile, some new images from the movie have landed, providing, among other things, a first look at Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl), the villain of ‘Civil War,’ who looks like a deadly accountant. But for the directors, it seems to be less about the baddie than watching former friends become enemies.

“It’s super important to us that you have a very difficult time choosing who you’re rooting for,” co-director Joe Russo told EW. “It doesn’t break down very cleanly in the movie. There’s a theme of brotherhood and rivalry between Cap and Tony that goes to some very complicated places.”

“Captain America: Civil War” opens on May 6th.
