There are few young actresses right now who are on quite the same trajectory as Elle Fanning. With directors like Cameron Crowe, J.J. Abrams, Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia Coppola, David Fincher, Tony Scott and Alejandro González Iñárritu already on her impressive CV, we can only imagine an Academy Award nomination isn't too far away. Her work just seems to be getting better and better, and her latest turn in Sally Potter's "Ginger & Rosa" may be her best yet.
"Elle has a quality of transparency in her face. It's like there's nothing in the way. If you can get to work with her on all the inside layers… perhaps in her empathetic imaginary experience, " Sally Potter recently told Anne Thompson in Telluride where the film made it's world premiere. "Elle is a serious young artist. So eager and hungry for these kind of subtle nuances of her trade, acting. It was unbelievably wonderful working with her. And the quality in her face, why the camera could come so close is because there's nothing in the way, there's no impediment. So it's like just looking in to somebody."
And indeed, our review of the film called Fanning's performance "transformative," so it's one that everyone should put on their radar. But when will we see it? Right now, the film is still without a distributor, a situation that we hope is rectified soon. Until then, a couple new images and U.K. poster for the film has arrived. "Ginger & Rosa" will play the New York Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival before opening overseas on October 19th.
