New Pics From Cannes-Selected 'Foxcatcher' With Steve Carell & Channing Tatum And 'Sils Maria' With Kristen Stewart

Foxcatcher

Cannes you believe it? (Sorry, we’re already tired from being up early to cover this.) Thierry Fremaux and co. unveiled the slate for this years Cannes Film Festival (with a couple more titles to come), and yes, that means more images from the films in competition.

First up is a new look at Steve Carell and Channing Tatum in Bennett Miller‘s “Foxcatcher.” The film, originally slated to be released last year, was held back so the director could put the finishing touches on it and now it’s headed to the south of France. Here’s the synopsis for the movie co-starring Mark Ruffalo, Sienna Miller, Vanessa Redgrave and Anthony Michael HallThe story of Olympic Wrestling Champion Mark Schultz and how paranoid schizophrenic John duPont killed his brother, Olympic Champion Dave Schultz.

Next up is “Sils Maria” (or “Clouds Of Sils Maria“), the latest from Cannes fave Olivier Assayas which brings together Juliette Binoche, Kristen Stewart and Chloë Moretz for a tale of faded fame. Here’s the synopsis: At the peak of her international career, Maria Enders (Juliette Binoche) is asked to perform in a revival of the play that made her famous twenty years ago. But back then she played the role of Sigrid, an alluring young girl who disarms and eventually drives her boss Helena to suicide. Now she is being asked to step into the other role, that of the older Helena. She departs with her assistant (Kristen Stewart) to rehearse in Sils Maria; a remote region of the Alps. A young Hollywood starlet with a penchant for scandal (Chloë Grace Moretz) is to take on the role of Sigrid, and Maria finds herself on the other side of the mirror, face to face with an ambiguously charming woman who is, in essence, an unsettling reflection of herself.

Sony Pictures Classics and IFC Films have the rights for each film, but no release dates have been set.
