Now that’s he’s through dissing Stanley Kubrick‘s “The Shining,” David Cronenberg can get back to finishing up “Maps To The Stars” for a rumored premiere next spring at the Cannes Film Festival. But until then, some new images from the flick have landed online, giving a closer look at his upcoming satire.

Featuring John Cusack, Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, Robert Pattinson, Olivia Williams and Sarah Gadon, the Bruce Wagner penned movie follows a family of Hollywood dynasty who are not quite living the glamorous, care-free life you might expect. Here’s a new synopsis via Shock ‘Til You Drop:

The Weiss family is the archetypical Hollywood dynasty: father Sanford is an analyst and coach, who has made a fortune with his self-help manuals; mother Christina mostly looks after the career of their son Benjie, 13, a child star.

One of Sanford’s clients, Havana, is an actress who dreams of shooting a remake of the movie that made her mother, Clarice, a star in the ’60s. Clarice is dead now and visions of her come to haunt Havana at night. Adding to the toxic mix, Benjie has just come off a rehab program he joined when he was 9 and his sister, Agatha, has recently been released from a sanatorium where she was treated for criminal pyromania…

Ghosts, drugs, fire… If anyone is going to blend those together into an intriguing cocktail, it’s Cronenberg. No U.S. distributor or dates yet, but it’s probably a bit early yet for that sort of thing. For now, just let these pics hold you over.
