The big push has begun for Rian Johnson's "Looper" in anticipation of its fall release, with the director and cast hitting Comic-Con this weekend to talk up the high concept, sci-fi, time travel assassin film (phew). But lest you think this will be some of kind brainy headscratching, in our interview the director he promised you'll be able to follow along and enjoy the fun. "One of my big priorities in writing the script," the director said, "was to make sure that it didn't feel dense, it didn't feel like homework. I put a lot of shoe leather into going over the script, and making sure the story worked, and ticked, without the sci-fi elements complicating it too much. Making sure the time travel did its job and got out of the way. So hopefully at the end of it, it makes sense, you don't have to think about it too deeply."
Johnson has shown before he can do both brains and entertainment value in equal measure, and a few new pics promise he will continue to do just that. Among them we get our first real looks at Paul Dano and Piper Perabo, the former of whom is playing Seth, a fellow Looper and hitman, while the latter's role has been kept under wraps. But they are intriuging snaps into what is shaping up to be another exciting project from the writer/director. To recap: Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays an assassin whose targets are sent to him from the future, but his world is turned upside down when his latest assignment is too kill his older self, played by Bruce Willis.
Could some kind of fall festival appearance be in the works? We'll see, but until then, mark your calendars: "Looper" time jumps on September 28th. [Kinopoisk]
