So is Steve Rogers getting all “Oldboy” on us for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier“? Don’t get ahead of yourself. According to directors Anthony and Joe Russo, in bringing the hero into the current timeline of the Marvel-verse, they looked back on ’70s thrillers like “Three Days Of The Condor” as the vibe they were trying to bring to their first superhero and tentpole outing. But it’s not just the chance to play with big budgets that brought the duo to the franchise, it was the ‘Winter Soldier’ story, of which both are big fans.
“It’s one of the best comic runs in the last 20 years, one of our favorite comic runs of all time, and we really want to do it justice. It was important to us to make sure he just jumped off the page to the screen,” Anthony Russo told USA Today, who have the new pics from the film. But as per usual with anything Marvel-related, there isn’t much else to go on, with further details and surprises being kept tight under key. However, we do know Robert Redford is taking a rare blockbuster turn in this (how apropos considering the vibe), with Anthony Mackie introducing Falcon to the big screen, which at least promises some interesting world building within the film and series.
Much more will revealed tomorrow when the first trailer arrives. Until then, the images, poster and a ten second preview of the trailer will have to hold you over. ‘Winter Soldier’ opens on April 4, 2014.
