The trailer for Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood” starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett has come online via Apple Trailers and has been pulled down by ComingSoon. A new image has leaked as well.
As previously mentioned it looks like Scott decided to stay with the simple “Robin Hood” title (though at one point the film was untitled).
There’s a pretty stellar cast involved, William Hurt, Matthew Macfadyen, Mark Strong, Oscar Isaac, Lea Seydoux, Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand, Alan Doyle, Danny Huston and Max von Sydow, but let’s hope this is more successful that Scott’s last swords and sandals type period-piece epic, “Kingdom of Heaven” (and don’t say the director’s cut was better, it just made it more of a total snooze). Here’s the synopsis:
Robin Hood chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion, a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.
The film hits theaters May 14, 2010. It’s honestly a little generic (esp for Ridley), and it’s way too heavy on the aggro, heavy metal music in the trailer, but that’s par the course for Ridley Scott and at least there’s no visible CGI. Let’s hope the sword fight speed-ramping is in the trailer only as well. We’re cautiously optimistic for this one if only because this may be a poor representation of the film.
