New Trailer, Poster & Photos For Sundance Darling & Cannes Contender 'Beasts Of The Southern Wild'

nullUpdate: Apple has unveiled the trailer which you can watch below, and yeah, it looks fantastic.

It's no secret that we're fans of director Benh Zeitlin's "Beasts of the Southern Wild," given our glowing review from Sundance and early prediction that the indie has an outside chance of riding its current momentum into an Oscar nomination. Of course, we're not alone, as 'Beasts' took the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance earlier this year and, a few weeks ago, was announced as one of the films that would compete in Cannes Film Festival's Un Certain Regard section later this month. In the meantime, however, a new poster and several photos from the film have arrived online.

It might seem on the surface that the photos and poster do little to reveal the story of the movie, as they simply depict the film's main character, 6-year-old Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis), in various states of loneliness. However, in many ways, the photos say everything about the film, which follows Hushpuppy's search for her mother due to her father's failing health and the foreboding reality of prehistoric creatures being unleashed onto the world as the icecaps melt. As for the poster, it blends the film's magical realism with some of the incredible praise that has been heaped onto Zeitlin's feature directorial debut.

If, for some reason, those airline tickets to France somehow got lost and Cannes isn't in the cards this year, not to worry — Fox Searchlight has already scheduled 'Beasts' for limited release on June 29th. With "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," "Magic Mike," "Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection" and "People Like Us" all opening that weekend in wide release, 'Beasts' ' real competition lies with the Seth Rogen/Michelle Williams drama "Take This Waltz," which we also liked. But there's an easy way to solve that dilemma — buy tickets for both. [Kinopoisk]
