While other festival organizers have worried about their relationship to Netflix and Amazon, and what it means to the future of cinema, the New York Film Festival has no such qualms. Organizers have revealed the bulk of their slate, and the films — with more than a few from those streaming services — that will join Opening Night flick “Last Flag Flying” from Richard Linklater, Closing Night picture “Wonder Wheel” from Woody Allen,” and Centerpiece Gala selection “Wonderstruck” from Todd Haynes.
NYFF has always been a curated, greatest hits selection of the best from the rest of the fests, and that’s no different this year. Among the highlights are Noah Baumbach‘s “The Meyerowitz Stories,” Greta Gerwig‘s directorial debut “Lady Bird,” Lucretia Martel‘s “Zama,” Sean Baker‘s “The Florida Project,” Dee Rees‘ “Mudbound,” and there’s much more. It’s auteur driven heaven, and cinephiles will get their hands on tickets as soon as possible.
