MTV has the first dibs on “Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist” poster, which isn’t very different from the first production still of the film released many months ago, so what’s the big deal? Well, there’s a couple reasons to take note of the film if you already haven’t. It’s certainly on our radar.
For one, it’s based on a very music-centric book about two teenagers (played by young prince of awkwardness Michael Cera and the sumptuous Kat Dennings) on a wild night of romance, adventure in the world of “mix tapes, late-night living, and, live, loud music,” in the New York indie-rock scene. Basically they’re on the hunt for a “secret show” in NYC (the film also co-stars Judd Apatow mainstay Jay Baruchel).
For two, it’s premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival this fall and many are touting it as having “Juno”-like possibilities; it’s young, it’s hip, it has “cool,” indie-music in it (*note: all films released 12-18 months in the wake of “Juno” that involve young teens in sarcastic and or romantic situations will be heretofore known as “Juno”-like or having “Juno”-esque possibilities/qualities until some other film comes along to fill that mien or usurp that vibe).
We already know that the film features performances by indie-rockers indie-rockers Bishop Allen and Brooklyn electro-indie duo Project Jenny/Project Jan in the film, but presumably they’ll be a lot more music to come. We admittedly haven’t read the book, but below is evidently a small sample of songs and bands featured or mentioned in the “Playlists” of the book taken from IMDB, so don’t put too much stock into it and perhaps look at it as loose guide. The film hits theaters October 3rd.
