Nico Tortorella Joins New Film By 'Like Crazy' Director Drake Doremus, Plot Details Revealed

Newcomer Mackenzie Davis Also On Board

It has been a pretty nice year for Drake Doremus. He walked away from the Sundance Film Festival with fantastic buzz for his lo-fi tale of long-distance love “Like Crazy” along with a Grand Jury Prize under his belt for the effort, and he’s used that momentum to get his next project rolling. Announced last month, not much was known about the project except that it would reunite him with “Like Crazy” star Felicity Jones, and also feature Guy Pearce and Amy Ryan, with the story centering on “love and marriage.” Well two new actors have joined the film and in the process some details on the story have landed.

Scream 4” star and the guy who played Razor on “Make It Or Break ItNico Tortorella and newcomer Mackenzie Davis have joined the film and if “Like Crazy” profiled the enduring bonds of love, this will explore what happens when those bonds break. In the film, Pearce will play a high school teacher married to Ryan, who is tempted to cheat on her with one of this students played by Jones. Tortorella will play a swim jock at the school who is a notorious womanizing asshole, while Davis will play the daughter of Pearce and Ryan. Sounds like a pretty solid premise and similar to “Like Crazy,” improvisation will be required.

So it definitely looks like a great next step for Doremus, getting a higher caliber cast, probably a bigger budget and nicely stretching the wheelhouse he’s established for himself. Filming starts this month. [Variety]
