Nicolas Winding Refn & Ryan Gosling Want To Make A Comedy Together, Refn Confirms 'Logan's Run' On Hold

Nicolas Winding Refn“Ryan and I are practically one,” director Nicolas Winding Refn says about Ryan Gosling in the press notes for “Only God Forgives,” which they are preparing to unspool at the Cannes Film Festival next week. But it seems they are already tinkering with what they will do next.

The director sat down and talked with Screen Daily and it’s revealed that the bromantic duo are looking “for a comedy to make.” Gosling is no stranger to the genre (“Crazy Stupid Love,” “Lars & The Real Girl“), but it would be a new direction for Refn, whose films tend to lean toward the brutal and intense more often than not (though yes, marked with their own black brand of humor). Of course, their definition of “comedy” is probably pretty broad, so we’ll have to see what comes of it. But it’s clear these two want to keep working together.

One project that won’t see their names attached any time soon is the long brewing remake of “Logan’s Run.” Gosling exited the project last year, and Refn confirms it’s now “on hold,” but not that he won’t be busy. You may have forgotten that the helmer is attached to the TV adaptation of “Barbarella,” that he is producing and directing, with a script from “Skyfall” writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. That will gear up later this year or in early 2014, and no, Gosling won’t be involved. “We did toy with the idea of what Ryan would look like in a catsuit,” he joked.

So there you go, the bromance will live on past “Only God Forgives,” but with Gosling busy on his directorial debut “How To Catch A Monster,” and Refn on the aforementioned project, we may have to wait a while for that flame to be rekindled.
