Since “GLOW” was unceremoniously canceled after Netflix gave the green light to begin work on a final season, it appears the creators of that show are ready to take their talents to Apple TV+ for anew anthology series, “Roar.” And they’re bringing a pretty amazing cast of actresses with them.

According to THR, Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Merritt Wever, and Alison Brie have been cast in the upcoming Apple TV+ anthology series, “Roar.” The show comes from “GLOW” creators, Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch. The series is said to be comprised of eight half-hour episodes. Exact details about which stars will appear in which episodes are unclear, but “Roar” is said to be based on Cecelia Ahern’s collection of short stories of the same name. The series, much like the book, is said to cover a wide range of topics as it relates to being a strong woman.
The description of the novel reads:
“In this singular and imaginative story collection, Cecelia Ahern explores the endless ways in which women blaze through adversity with wit, resourcefulness, and compassion. Ahern takes the familiar aspects of women’s lives — the routines, the embarrassments, the desires — and elevates these moments to the outlandish and hilarious with her astute blend of magical realism and social insight.”
As mentioned, Flahive and Mensch are the creators of the hit Netflix series, “GLOW,” which was given another season order but was canceled during the pandemic due to COVID concerns. Now, it appears that the two have moved on to work on this new show, which reunites them with their “GLOW” star, Alison Brie.
But Brie isn’t the only big star in the cast. Nicole Kidman has reached new heights in her career thanks to her recent TV work on series such as “Big Little Lies” and “The Undoing.” She has a number of other TV projects in the works, as well. Merritt Wever recently appeared on the HBO series, “Run.” And Cynthia Erivo is an award-winning actress that will star in the upcoming series, “Genius: Aretha.”
No release date has been set for “Roar.”
