While the films of “Dogtooth” and “The Lobster” director Yorgos Lanthimos are hardly seasoned to mainstream tastes, it speaks to the strength and originality of his material, that bigger and bigger names continue to sign up to work with him. I can only imagine how refreshing it must be for an actor to have one of his scripts cross their desk, and once again, a major A-list talent is lining up to collaborate with the director.

THR reports that Nicole Kidman is boarding Lanthimos’ “The Killing Of A Sacred Deer,” which already has Colin Farrell slated to star. The psychological thriller/revenge tale, inspired by Euripides, follows a surgeon whose ideal life starts to fall apart when he encounters a teenage boy whose intentions soon turn sinister, leaving the doctor fighting for the survival of his family. Apparently, the story will have a supernatural element to it as well, and Farrell and Kidman will play husband and wife.
Cameras start rolling in August, A24 is already lined up to distribute the picture stateside, and we can bet this one will have a big premiere at Cannes next spring.
