Nicole Kidman 'Big Little Lies' Season 2

The minute HBO‘s acclaimed, limited series “Big Little Lies” ended this spring, the question on everyone’s minds was when we might get more. Even though it was conceived as a one-off, the show about the pulpy lives of women on California’s west coast was a big hit, and many viewers wanted to know what the next chapter might be. Director Jean-Marc Vallée ruled out any possibility of a follow-up, but author Liane Moriarty, who wrote the book that was adapted for the series, said she was approached by the producers to think about a story for season two. Well, you can put another check mark in the “not gonna happen” column, as one of the stars of “Big Little Lies” seems doubtful there’ll be more.

Chatting with Ewan McGregor as part of Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” series, Nicole Kidman made it pretty clear that the chances of more “Big Little Lies” is fairly slim.

“It was a book so it was pretty finite,” she explained. “We got the taste for it, so we’re like, ‘Oh, what a pity.’ You never know, you always hope, but there’s no story, there’s absolutely no prospects right now.”

Still, the actress isn’t necessarily opposed to the idea, and even sees what a second season might offer her character. “The backstory of Bonnie is complicated, and not fully explored, which is probably why we need to do a season 2,” she told EW earlier this year. “It indicates that every woman is holding some sort of secret or damage or something and that’s not fully explored. We don’t have any plans for a season 2, but the beauty of this is there are so many deep stories here that are ripe for mining. There are so many different ways to go with all of these women. This is such a small portion of their lives, but I love that people have connected to them in such a deep way. And everyone in different ways to different women.”

So, it seems Kidman is leaving the door open but doesn’t think a new season of “Big Little Lies” will come through anytime soon. Thoughts? Let us know in the comments section.
