Basically, Katherine Heigl is making her own ‘Benjamin Button.’ The actress recently joined the romantic comedy “Adaline” whose premise “revolves around a beautiful woman who hasn’t aged in 100 years but hasn’t found love, either. She finally meets that guy who might be worth embracing mortality, and all the wrinkles and sagging that comes with it.” Sounds a little ridiculous right? We haven’t gotten to the good part yet. Adaline gains her immortality when just after she dies in a car accident she is immediately and almost simultaneously struck by lightning, keeping her forever in her 20s. Amazing.
Anyhow, with the elaborate setup now explained, it doesn’t seem so strange that Angela Lansbury — who will always be Jessica Fletcher to us — has joined the cast as Adaline’s daughter. Immortality is only granted via lightning, not through genetics it seems. Appropriately, she will play the offspring who is now in her 80s and needs the care of her mother.
If you’re still wondering just how bad this potentially can get, Mills Goodloe (“Pride“) and Sal Pascowitz (“Nic & Tristan Go Mega Dega“) wrote the script, that has been revised by Allison Burnett (“Fame,” “Untraceable“). That’s quite a resumé. And with Andy Tennant (“Hitch,” “The Bounty Hunter“) in the director’s chair you have another Heigl vehicle that will probably be pure torture to sit through.
Filming is set to begin next April and no word yet on who is being cast as the love interest, but we feel sorry for him already. [Deadline]
