Along with Robert Eggers and Ari Aster, Jordan Peele is one of modern horror’s new masters. Well, good news, horror fans: all three directors have new films out this year. Eggers’ “The Northman” arrives first in April, with a release date for Aster’s “Disappointment Blvd.” yet to be determined. As for Peele’s follow-up to 2019’s “Us?” That hits theaters this summer.

Right now, there’s not a lot of info about “Nope,” Peele’s latest horror project through Universal and his Monkeypaw Productions. What is known is the cast, led by Daniel Kaluuya, who returns to work with Peele after he starred in 2017’s “Get Out.” The film also stars Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, “Euphoria” star Barbie Ferreira, and Brandon Perea. Michael Wincott, Ethan Cutkosky, Jennifer Lafleur, and Terry Notary are also on board.
Plot-wise, “Nope” is still somewhat opaque, but the trailer and synopsis give us some clues: some kind of uncanny horror that rolls into town.
“What’s a bad miracle?” Oscar® winner Jordan Peele disrupted and redefined modern horror with Get Out and then Us. Now, he reimagines the summer movie with a new pop nightmare: the expansive horror epic, Nope. The film reunites Peele with Oscar® winner Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah), who is joined by Keke Palmer (Hustlers, Alice) and Oscar® nominee Steven Yeun (Minari, Okja) as residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery. Nope, which co-stars Michael Wincott (Hitchcock, Westworld) and Brandon Perea (The OA, American Insurrection), is written and directed by Jordan Peele and is produced by Ian Cooper (Us, Candyman) and Jordan Peele for Monkeypaw Productions. The film will be released by Universal Pictures worldwide.
Peele writes, directs, and produces “Nope” as he did with “Get Out” and “Us.” In addition, Michael Abels returns to provide music for the film. This time around, Hoyte van Hoytema, who’s worked on Christopher Nolan‘s last two features, is Peele’s cinematographer.
Do critics and audiences have any reservations about how little they know about Peele’s new film? Look to the movie’s title for the answer: this is one of the year’s most anticipated films. Don’t miss out! “Nope” releases exclusively in theaters on July 22. Watch the new trailer below.
