Norwegian Actress Ingrid Bolsø Berdal Joins 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters'

Looks like Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton have yet another witch to hunt in Tommy Wirkola‘s revisioned Hansel & Gretel story, produced by Adam McKay & Will Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez shingle.

BloodyDisgusting reports that Norwegian actress Ingrid Bolsø Berdal is the latest addition to the cast and will be playing a one of a handful of witches fronted by Famke Janssen‘s leader who will antagonise Renner and Arterton’s eponymous duo. Berdal’s particular witch, though, will reportedly be “wearing some cool prosthetics” and is described as “superbad” and “a hardcore killing machine” which doesn’t sound far off previous characters played by the actress including the lead in Roar Uthaug‘s “Cold Prey.”

Scribed by “All You Need Is Kill” writer D.W. Harper, the reimagined tale finds the brother and sister duo now as full-time witch hunters, fifteen years after surviving the ordeal at the iconic gingerbread house. It girl Noomi Rapace had previously been linked to the role of Gretel before Arterton jumped on board the project, which certainly sounds like a interesting prospect with Wirkola — the man behind the Edgar Wright-esque Nazi zombie flick “Dead Snow” — at the helm.

The film has been going by both titles of “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” and “Hansel & Gretel 3D” with MGM recently stepping in to co-finance the $60m pic with Paramount. A March 2nd release for 2012 has already been set.
