Later this month on Disney+, we’ll get our latest live-action “Star Wars” fix with Ewan McGregor reprising his Jedi knight character in “Obi-Wan Kenobi” who hasn’t appeared since 2005’s “Star Wars: Revenge of The Sith.” The show features prequel characters such as Hayden Christensen‘s Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Joel Edgerton‘s Uncle Owen, and Bonnie Piesse‘s Aunt Beru. It might not end there as director Deborah Chow is hinting we could see more from the prequel/film corner of the “Star Wars” universe in the upcoming Disney+ series.
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Chow dished that they’re looking more towards the established live-action characters from the films for cameos/appearances rather than from the television side of things. However, Chow stopped short of dishing who those could be but mentioned that the prequels are their “strongest connective tissue.”
“Given the nature of our characters, the strongest connective tissue is to the prequels for us,” Chow says. “Because in large part, that’s where our characters are coming from and that’s where their stories started. So really the prequels are sort of the most connected to our series.”
“Obviously I came from ‘The Mandalorian,’ so a lot of that DNA is in me,” the director said. “And a lot of my Jedi masters, with John Favreau and Dave Filoni, are also just sort of embedded in me now, but I wasn’t looking to tie in necessarily anything. It was just trying to tell the story with integrity to the character, and so that was the connection to the prequels.”
The outlet brings up the rumor of Jimmy Smits‘ Bail Organa (adopted father of Princess Leia) potentially showing up and we could speculate someone like Kenobi’s alien pal Dexter Jettster from “Attack of The Clones” could also be considered as he’s still kicking around. It’s worth noting that Smits reprised the role in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and directly mentioned Kenobi during his scenes.
Here is “Obi-Wan Kenobi”‘s official synopsis:
The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.
The limited series was expected to be a one-off but McGregor is “totally up” for more Kenobi.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” will debut on May 27.
