J.J. Abrams doesn't like to do things like everyone else. And so while the rest of Hollywood is content with dropping teasers for trailers and lots of images and one sheets for their tentpoles, Abrams is going to take the veil of secrecy off "Star Trek Into Darkness" by unspooling nine minutes of the thing in front of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." But it's two weeks until Peter Jackson's movie hits theaters, so we still have time to speculate.
With that in mind, here's the sequel's official synopsis, which is, of course, pretty damn vague. With words like "force of terror," "manhunt" and "weapons of mass destruction" being tossed around, you might think it's "Zero Dark Thirty Into Darkness." And indeed this synopsis is mostly interesting because, outside of the words "Enterprise" and "Star Trek," you might not have any idea that it's set in outer space or anything. But that's the way Abrams rolls; the less you know, the better.
