'One Nation, One King' Trailer: Adèle Haenel Leads A French Revolution

The 75th Venezia International Film Festival is here, and it’s no surprise that Adèle Haenel will be making an appearance. Quickly becoming France’s sweetheart and with ever-growing international attention, Haenel will be starring in the French picture “One Nation, One King” – “Un Peuple et son Roi.”

Though the film is rolling out-of-competition for #Venezia75, it’s nothing to worry about for this award-winning actress. Her debut in 2007 with Céline Sciamma’s “Water Lillies” nominated Haenel for a Cesar Award and since then, Haenel has been nominated 4 more times and won twice. She is also reported to be in Sciamma’s upcoming work “Portrait de la Jeune Fille en Feu.”

Directed by Pierre Schoeller, ‘One Nation’ tells the tale of the 1789 French revolution from the people’s point of view (long before they were “Les Misérables” was even written). Joining the cast as the male lead is Gaspard Ulliel, a French actor and model. Like Haenel, he also has two Cesar Awards under his belt, for his roles in 2004’s “A Very Long Engagement” and 2017’s “It’s Only the End of the World.”

The 75th Venezia International Film Fest is happening now. Here’s the synopsis from the Venezia Film Festival website:

Paris, 1789. The Bastille has been stormed and a breath of liberty blows through the streets of Paris. Françoise, a young washerwoman, and Basile, a drifter with neither name, nor family, together discover the unique exhilaration of revolution and love. With their comrades and the working-class people of Paris, they begin to realise a dream of emancipation in the newly formed assembly where they witness, with both hopes and doubts, the creation of a new political system. Within their debates and the riots on the streets hold the fate of their once sacred king and the birth of a republic. Freedom has a story.
