One Way Or Another, Will Forte Says 'MacGruber 2' Is Going To Happen

MacGruberWhile “MacGruber” didn’t exactly light up the box office a few years ago, its deranged sense of humor and outright absurdity landed the movie a devoted cult following, who have been vocal about wanting to see a sequel. And in this era of Kickstarting/rebooting everything, perhaps it’s not impossible. But last summer, Will Forte wasn’t so optimistic. “We would love… we had so much fun doing that. We’re proud of it, and we jokingly talk about the sequel all the time. But I don’t think anybody in their right mind would give us any money for it. If somebody gives us money for it…” he said. But perhaps he’s feeling a bit more hopeful? Or maybe he’s joking again.

Either way, when the actor recently chatted with EW in advance of his upcoming dramatic turn in Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska” “Run & Jump,” the indie premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival later this month, he once again teased the possibility of more MacGruber. “We are going to make ‘MacGruber 2‘ for sure,” he asserted, before adding. “Whether we have to do it with a video camera in our backyards – there will be some form of ‘MacGruber 2.’”

Again, it kinda sounds like he wants to do it, but the reality of Universal fronting the cash — as he said last year — likely isn’t there. But what about passing the digital hat around “Veronica Mars” style? “Jorma [Taccone], the ‘MacGruber’ director, he had the idea to do a Kickstarter like two years ago,” Forte shared. “He kept saying ‘We should do a Kickstarter’ and we were like ‘Yeah, maybe at some point.’ He’s always ahead of the curve. That’s the lesson you learn — always listen to Jorma.”

So maybe? Perhaps? Mayhaps? Time will tell, but that wig that will live forever.
