There have been no less than a half-dozen films based on the William Shakespeare classic “Hamlet.” That’s not even taking into consideration those films that drew their inspiration from the tale, without overtly becoming a true adaptation. Well, we have another take on “Hamlet” to add to the pile, but this time the focus is not on the titular character. Instead, in Claire McCarthy’s new film, the focus is on Hamlet’s love interest, Ophelia.
In the new trailer for “Ophelia,” viewers are introduced to Daisy Ridley’s title character as she meets and falls in love with the young Prince Hamlet. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, Ophelia’s love affair with Hamlet comes at a most inopportune time for the young man, as he becomes embattled in a fight for the crown.

“Ophelia” is directed by the aforementioned McCarthy, who is probably best known for her films “Little Hands” and “The Waiting City.” The script was adapted from the Shakespeare work, and the novel “Ophelia” by author Lisa Klein, by writer Semi Chellas.
Ridley, as you probably already know, is most famous for her starring role in the recent “Star Wars” films ‘The Force Awakens’ and ‘The Last Jedi.’ However, outside of her “Star Wars” work, the young actress has been seen in “Murder on the Orient Express” and the upcoming “Chaos Walking.”
