Oprah Announces Two Documentary Projects & Book Club Return For New Apple Streaming Service

The Apple TV event has just ended, and the world is finally updated on what the tech company has planned for its streaming takeover. And to cap off the event, Apple decided to bring out the big gun. No, they had already introduced J.J. Abrams, Jason Momoa, Alfre Woodard, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and Steven Spielberg. To top all of that, Apple decided to bring Oprah Winfrey on stage, and in doing so, announced just what the media mogul is up to with the tech company.

Last year, we learned that Oprah had signed a deal with Apple to develop some content for the upcoming streaming service (which we now know is called Apple TV+). But up until now, fans weren’t really sure what to expect.

According to the woman herself, the first slate of Oprah-produced/approved projects includes a documentary feature film, tentatively titled “Toxic Labor,” which aims to shed light on the growing concern of workplace sexual harassment and misconduct. Oprah is also spearheading a docu-series, as yet untitled, which will tackle mental illness, in all its facets, and how it shapes and destroys the lives of millions.

And for those interested in the Oprah Book Club, she’s bringing it back, better than ever. She’s using Apple’s tech, including TV+, to bring special book club events such as live-streaming interviews with the authors, to the subscribers.

Now, if you’re a fan of Oprah and all these projects sound like music to your ears, we should probably get you to temper your expectations. Like everything announced today, all we have is a “fall 2019” release window and no idea what the cost is going to be for this original content. So yeah, there’s really no way to celebrate, other than to welcome Oprah into the Apple fold.
