As we wait on pins and needles for Chris Rock’s reaction to the now-infamous slap at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony, there are still reactions from attendees trickling in. Yesterday, fellow comedian Jim Carrey weighed in, defending Rock’s poise while calling Hollywood’s standing ovation for Smith’s Best Actor win “spineless” and “sickening.” As the controversy continues to metastasize and the Academy, SAG, and others review and consider disciplinary measures, Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, the target of Rock’s joke, has called for “healing.” However, that’s certainly not going to be the last of all the takes.

Yesterday, actress Zoë Kravitz (“The Batman”) posted a photo of herself at the awards show on her Instagram account and left a caption commenting on the altercation, referring to the slap as “assault.” Kravitz, the daughter of actress Lisa Bonet and musician Lenny Kravitz, has been around Hollywood most of her life.

“Here’s a picture of my dress at the award show where we are apparently assaulting people on stage now,” the actress said in a dry and pithy Instagram post.
This only adds to the growing chorus of angered celebrities that have been pointing out Smith’s childish overreaction to a bad joke and supporting Rock in the process. Many of us are probably still trying to accept that it even happened, and this has led to many people speaking on behalf of Rock or defending Smith, who has established his brand even as far back as his rap career as the squeaky clean, good guy. It only highlights that actors aren’t their characters and that even people we like can make mistakes.

Rock is said to have a stand-up set tonight and might comment publicly about the incident, as he hasn’t spoken to the media or reacted to the apology Smith made in a statement earlier this week and apologized.
