You can be damned if you do and damned if you don’t and the narrative shifts to whatever convenient place it needs to go. When reports of trouble surfaced about “Fantastic Four” a few weeks back, the general online consensus was, “well this is what happens when you give an inexperienced director [Josh Trank] a big tentpole.” And while that remains to be seen (nobody has watched the actual movie yet), what is clear is that Hollywood is investing in young filmmakers for big blockbusters regardless of their “inexperience.”
After the low-budget "Monsters", Gareth Edwards got called up to the big leagues to helm "Godzilla," and indie directors like Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Justin Kurzel and many more are developing their blockbuster-size projects (we did an entire feature about indie directors who could be the next generation of blockbuster filmmakers and you can read that here).

One filmmaker who got called up immediately after his Sundance indie debut was Colin Trevorrow, the director behind “Safety Not Guaranteed.” Universal put all their eggs into his basket as he’s been tasked with reviving a key franchise with “Jurassic World.” And in what seems to be a big Hollywood trend these days, “Jurassic World” takes place after the events of the first “Jurassic Park” and ignores the less-fondly remembered sequels.

While the story seems pretty familiar — dinosaurs run amok in a park meant to amuse and entertain patrons — Universal has wanted to get this franchise back on its hind legs for years now. The new cast stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Brian Tee, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, and original cast member B. D. Wong. Three new clips from the film have been released, lots of TV spots are out there and Universal has also unleashed over 20 new photos from the movie.
