For many people, there’s nothing scarier than the idea of being trapped in a small space. And that simple idea is taken to its sci-fi limits in the upcoming film, “Oxygen.”
As seen in the teaser for the Netflix feature, “Oxygen” follows the story of a woman (Mélanie Laurent) that wakes up in a cryogenic unit without any memory of how she got there. The only problem is she’s not able to escape the pod and her oxygen level is quickly depleting. So, not only is she confined to a coffin-like space, but she’s going to suffocate in a matter of time. Just thinking about that is enough to freak a lot of people out, I’m sure.

As mentioned, the film stars Mélanie Laurent in the starring role. The actress is probably best known to American audiences thanks to roles in features such as “Inglourious Basterds,” “Now You See Me,” “Beginners,” and “Enemy.” Her most recent film is the Michael Bay action feature, “6 Underground.”
“Oxygen” is directed by Alexandre Aja. The film began production last summer, and considering the footage seen in the teaser, it’s clear that the filmmaker and Laurent didn’t have to do a whole lot to keep within the COVID filming protocols. Aja is probably best known for horror films such as “High Tension,” “The Hills Have Eyes,” and the criminally underrated, “Crawl.”
“Oxygen” arrives on Netflix on May 12. You can watch the teaser trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
