Being trapped in a coffin-like box is one of the most primal fears that many people experience. It’s a feeling that elicits panic just from watching other people go through it. And that’s what makes the upcoming Netflix thriller, “Oxygen,” a fairly terrifying prospect.

As seen in the trailer for “Oxygen,” the film stars Mélanie Laurent as a woman that wakes up without memories of who she is and what’s going on. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have a lot of time to figure those things out because she’s trapped in some sort of device that is quickly running out of oxygen. With only 90 minutes of breathable air (convenient for a feature film), she has to discover who she is, why she’s trapped, and most importantly, how to escape.
Obviously, given the premise, the cast for “Oxygen” isn’t all that huge. But joining Laurent are actors Mathieu Amalric (“The French Dispatch”) and Malik Zidi (“Play”). The thriller is directed by Alexandre Aja, based on a script by Christie LeBlanc. Aja is probably best known for films such as “High Tension,” “The Hills Have Eyes,” and “Piranha 3D.” His most recent feature is the incredibly underrated horror, “Crawl.”
“Oxygen” arrives on Netflix on May 12. You can watch the trailer below.
