Even though he’s rapidly approaching the age of 83, Ridley Scott isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Not only is he trying to get back to work and finish his period drama, “The Last Duel,” it would appear that he’s already setting up his cast for his next feature, with arguably one of the best lineups of actors in a while.
According to Deadline, Scott and MGM are in talks with Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Jack Huston, and Reeve Carney to join the upcoming film, “Gucci.” The feature has already landed Lady Gaga in the lead role, so these other actors would all surround the “A Star is Born” actress and turn the biopic into a true ensemble.
In the film, Gaga will play Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci, who was tried and convicted of setting up his assassination on the steps of his home. It’s unclear which roles the rest of the new cast will inhabit, but with names like Driver, Pacino, De Niro, and the rest, does it really matter? These are people we’d watch in just about anything.
As mentioned, it’s unclear when production on “Gucci” will begin. Before he even begins work on that, Scott has to wrap up “The Last Duel,” which stars Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Adam Driver, and Jodie Comer. That film, if the pandemic wasn’t a thing, was probably going to be an awards contender later this year. Now, it seems as if the feature will be delayed until deep into 2021 and maybe hope for some awards discussion next year, much like many of the other hopefuls that studios have been working on.
In addition to those two films, Scott is prepping the release of his upcoming feature, “Raised by Wolves,” which he produced and directed two episodes of. He’s also always talking about someday returning to both the “Gladiator” world and “Alien” franchise, but those projects seem more long term planning than coming soon. His most recent feature was “All the Money in the World.”
