In the first trailer for “Paddleton,” we meet Duplass’ character, a middle-aged man that was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and decides that he doesn’t want to let the illness destroy him and will take matters into his own hand. Helping him is his best friend, played by Romano, who joins the ill man on a quest to find the medication that will help him…end things. Along the way, they also play a game called paddleton, which apparently includes two tennis rackets, a wall, a ball, and a big metal trash can.
“Paddleton” is directed and co-written by Alex Lehmann, who previously has worked with Duplass on the film “Blue Jay,” in which Lehmann directed a script written by the actor. However, it would appear this newest film is going to be his highest-profile effort yet, with a major premiere at Sundance, followed by a release on Netflix less than a month later.
“Paddleton” will take part in this year’s Sundance Film Festival before launching globally on Netflix on February 22.
Here’s the synopsis:
An unlikely friendship between two misfit neighbors becomes an unexpectedly emotional journey when the younger man is diagnosed with terminal cancer.
